The Kerr County Republican Party is committed to helping our members make informed decisions ahead of every election. With the Republican runoff for Texas Attorney General scheduled for May 26, voters in Kerr County will help decide between two proven conservatives who advanced from the March primary: our own U.S. Representative Chip Roy and State Senator Mayes Middleton.

Due to incumbent Attorney General Ken Paxton running for U.S. Senate instead of seeking reelection, this runoff will select the Republican nominee to lead one of the most powerful offices in Texas. The next Attorney General must defend state sovereignty against federal overreach, protect election integrity, uphold the rule of law, safeguard life and religious liberty, and fight for the constitutional rights that Texans hold dear. To assist voters, we are sharing the latest lifetime Freedom Scores for both candidates from The Freedom Index.

The Freedom Index is a nonpartisan educational program of The John Birch Society. It rates elected officials nationwide based on how closely their votes align with the principles of the U.S. Constitution, limited government, individual liberty, and fiscal responsibility. Scores are calculated from key legislative votes on issues ranging from border security and spending restraint to Second Amendment protections and resistance to unconstitutional federal mandates. Higher scores reflect stronger, more consistent support for the foundational values that built our republic and continue to define conservative governance.

U.S. Representative Chip Roy – 97% Freedom Score

Congressman Roy, who represents Texas’s 21st Congressional District that includes all of Kerr County and the Texas Hill Country, earned an outstanding lifetime Freedom Score of 97 percent. This near-perfect rating demonstrates his exceptional commitment to the conservative principles that matter most to our community. As a member of the House Freedom Caucus, Rep. Roy has repeatedly stood against reckless federal spending that balloons our national debt, opposed open-border policies that endanger our safety and sovereignty, and championed energy independence, strong national defense, and the God-given rights protected by the Second Amendment. Kerr County residents know him as a man of conviction who delivers results without compromise. His proven record of fighting Washington overreach and prioritizing constitutional fidelity makes him exceptionally well-qualified to serve as Texas Attorney General and continue the strong conservative legacy of that office.

Texas State Senator Mayes Middleton – 79% Freedom Score

Senator Middleton earned a solid 79 percent lifetime Freedom Score during his service in the Texas Senate. His record shows consistent support for limited government initiatives and traditional Texas values that strengthen families and communities.

These objective scores from The Freedom Index give Kerr County Republicans clear insight into each candidate’s legislative history as they prepare to cast their ballots on May 26.
